Interior Design – Diploma

Training Program Description
This nationally recognised program is for people who want to learn the theoretical and practical aspects of interior decoration.

You will learn how to apply colour to interiors, select furniture, choose fixtures, select appropriate fabrics, renovation and restoration. In addition you will learn how to solve problems creatively, be imaginative, think laterally and extend and transform problems by designing innovative solutions. You will learn how to encourage and promote creativity both for yourself, your colleagues and contacts; produce creative contemporary designs taking into account historical, socioeconomic, political and environmental influences; and produce creative solutions within domestic and commercial contexts.

You will also learn how to work productively with others; respond to changing circumstances; clarify ideas, communicate them clearly and make sure that the vision is shared and understood the same way by all involved; and use effective interpersonal skills to interact with design team members, clients, associated professionals, suppliers and service providers, communicate intentions using a range of techniques, media and technologies.

You will also learn how to stay abreast of trends, fashions and technical developments; develop and maintain knowledge of sources of related products, suppliers, contractors and specialist expertise required to support a creative proposal; and apply knowledge of manufacturing, construction and fabrication processes in the development of a decoration project.

Articulation
When you finish this program you may be eligible to do Interior Design Advanced Diploma 7557.

Minimum Entry Requirements
NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent statement from another educational
authority) or NSW School Certificate (or equivalent, from another educational authority) with one year's fulltime study or work experience in a relevant industry.

Selection Criteria
Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria:
1. Individuality of expression.
2. A creative approach to problem solving.
3. The ability to develop design solutions.
4. A well developed sense of colour appreciation.
5. Demonstrated awareness of this profession and extent of previous studies/experience in related areas.
6. Ability to comply with the requirements of the selection process.
7. A successful result in selection test, or presentation of a portfolio from previous study and an interview.

Selection Method
This progran requires a standard application form to be completed and returned to the Design Centre no later than 4pm on the advertised closing date and successful completion of design tests and/or interview. To ensure that you obtain the precise application details and to allow yourself maximum preparation time to work on your application, you should contact the Design Centre in August.

Cost
• $543.00 per Semester (in 2007) TAFE NSW Fee

Additional Cost
. $195 for fulltime program(Course Related Charges see note 5)
. $95 for parttime program
Includes software licences & upgrades, art supplies & materials, handouts & worksheets and student exhibitions.

sounds an excellent course. it is a great campus also
